Rev. David L. Hatton, RN (1948–2024)

Rev. David Lee Hatton, RN was an ordained minister, registered nurse, author, and poet whose life and work bridged biblical theology, health care, and Christian philosophy. Born in Bloomington, Indiana, and raised in Hayward, California, he was married to his wife, Rosemary, for over 50 years. Together they raised 12 children. Pastor David passed away in late 2024. He dedicated much of his life to helping others experience freedom from shame and the hyper-sexualization of the body.

Hatton worked as a hospital Registered Nurse for 34 years, specializing for much of his career as a Labor & Delivery (L&D) nurse before retiring in 2015. His clinical experience deeply shaped his understanding of human anatomy, birth, death, and body dignity, which frequently informed his writing and research. He earned a Master’s degree in Cross-Cultural Studies (1988) and was ordained in the Wesleyan Church. He served as a bi-vocational pastor, including pastoring seniors at Eskaton Village in Carmichael, California. Hatton authored several books, poetry collections, and theological studies, including Meeting at the River.

A primary focus of his theological work was promoting a godly, creational view of the human body to counter cultural body shame, prudery, and sexualization. He advocated for a return to what he described as “normal, social nudity” and wholesome body acceptance as grounded in biblical creation and the Incarnation.
