Our Stories

Truth is not only violated by falsehood;
it may be outraged by silence.

— Henri Frederic Amiel —

Who We Are

We are just ordinary individuals. However, God has done something extraordinary in our lives, and we want to share that with you.

If you’ve read the story about The Chain, you will begin to understand the kind of freedom that we have experienced and why we want to share our stories with you.

That is our only motivation.

None of us are wealthy, but we aren’t doing this for money. There are no ads, no banners, no links-for-pay, no association to any church, organization or business. We aren’t even asking for donations. We just want to share with you what we’ve learned from God’s Word and how we’ve been changed by it. This message will be good news for many, and all of us feel it is too exciting and too significant to keep to ourselves.

There are six of us who have committed to making this web site a reality. I’ve asked each of them to tell a little bit about themselves so you can begin to get to know them. We each will also share a little bit more of our own stories on the pages below.

Pastor David M. | Pastor Bill | Pastor David H. | Pastor Mike

My name is Pastor David Martin.

I’m the leader of this band of friends whom God has brought together to develop this web site. Let me tell you a little about myself.

I have been happily married to my wife of for over 23 years and I am the father of four wonderful children. I have served the Lord in pastoral ministry for nearly 20 years. Several years ago, God has miraculously opened the door for me to transition into a position in the secular workplace. I believe He has done this in part so that I can apply myself to bringing this web site into existence and to make a difference in how Christians think about the human form.

I am participating in this web site because I am like so many other followers of Christ… Committed to serving Him in faithfulness and purity, yet somehow ensnared by the allure of pornography… At least that was true until a few years ago (read My Story).

It is my prayer that you will find in these pages the truths that set me radically free from my bondage to pornography, and if you are in the same struggle, that you will find that freedom yourself.

By His Grace,

— David Martin

My name is Pastor Bill.

I have been married over three decades and we have grown children. My wife and I have enjoyed our years together as a team, first as support to one another, second as parents raising our children, and from the very beginning as a ministry couple. I’ve served in various ministries for all our married years with the majority of those as a pastor.

My reason for being a team-member in the creation of this website is because of my deep desire to help others who experience the battle with pornography that I battled most of my life. You can read more about that in My Story.

It is my prayer that through this website many men and women will lose the chains that keep them bound to the slimy pit of pornography. Freedom is possible, not just temporary victory. Permanent purity is possible without that nagging pull on the chain so many are enslaved to.

Hello, and welcome to this site. My name is Pastor David.

I’m a bi-vocational minister and labor & delivery nurse. Although my childhood faith got sidetracked in a high school biology class, a unique philosophical journey in logic during my later teens led me to an even stronger commitment to Jesus Christ. After Bible College, I served with both Gospel Outreach in Northern California and Youth with a Mission in Quebec. A few years after getting my RN (1981) and starting hospital work, I began graduate Christian studies at New College Berkeley, finishing my M. A. thesis, Christian Spirituality in Context, in 1988. In 1996, I began pastoring a church in a retirement village, where two other bi-vocational ministers are now serving with me.

I have a very unique perspective on the porn problem. Like most young men, porn was attractive to me in my teens and twenties, but not enough to spend money on it. If I had known about Internet porn before I became a nurse, I might have really gotten into it. But as you will see, if you keep reading on this site, my exposure to the truth set me free. I want you to be free, too. (read My Story)

— Pastor David, RN

My name is Pastor Mike. I am a retired minister, a widower who is 77 years old. I live in a retirement community in the Midwest. I have 2 adult sons, 2 daughters-in-law and 4 grandchildren.

I’m glad to be a team member on this website because I wholeheartedly believe the answers here can help many become free from their chains of pornography. You can learn more about me in My Story.

Thank you so much for making this site. I’ve been following it and reading stuff on here for a couple of years now and I’ve recommended countless friends and other men to come here and see what it’s all about. So much of what you guys teach and talk about here confirms what God started doing in me years ago, before I ever knew about this site.

I grew up in a Christian home, having the porno-prudish view of sexuality and the human body instilled into me from a young age. I was addicted to porn for almost ten years, and no matter what methods I employed to free myself, I always fell back into the same pit.

Then, one morning, while I was praying alone in my bedroom as usual, I heard the Lord speak to me. He told me to take off my clothes and be naked before Him. I couldn’t believe it! But I knew it was the Lord’s voice, so I obeyed. It was extremely awkward. At that time, I believed masturbation was an absolute sin, so I was nervous about where this nudity might lead me. But instead of leading me toward sexual pleasure, I felt empowered and strengthened, full of joy and peace, as the Holy Spirit spoke to me and comforted me. I couldn’t explain how or why, but I felt totally at peace with my own nudity, and I copied this experience every day for the next week!

Then, a couple of years later, the Lord told me to join the YMCA. I did, and there in that old building was a large locker room with open showers. I would go there for the next several months, two or three times a week, exercise, and then take a shower where other men could see me. I never wore a towel around my waste. I refused to hide myself in shame and fear. I was desperate to live in the freedom God gave me, and as I did, He poured peace, confidence, and joy into me. He strengthened me and secured me in my identity in Him, in whom He’d made me to be, and the human body lost its erotic luster.

That’s not to say I never looked at porn again, but the roots were cut off from under it in my mind. Of course, there’s much more to the story than that, but I don’t feel like writing a book here. It wasn’t until almost a decade later that I found this website! I was so excited to find other Christians who were hearing the same thing I was hearing about nudity, lust, and freedom. There are so few Christians out there talking about this stuff, but it’s so important. I have three children of my own now, and I am already raising them to desexualize the human body. People think I’m nuts, but we can’t keep doing what past generations have done and expect a better product. That’s insanity.

Please keep up what you’re doing. I know you haven’t posted anything new in a while, but please know that what you have here has blessed me and is blessing other people. I hope, if it’s the Lord’s will, that you will continue to grow this site and add to it. Your work here was not in vain. And you’re not the only ones out there who are talking about this stuff. Keep going!
